One of Lil' C's favorite books is "Planting a Rainbow Garden". He's definitely a botanist in the making; he can identify more flowers than anyone I know well except for his godfather who is a professional gardener. Needless to say he loves flowers and is always admiring & picking them for me.
Once we found out we were moving, I promised Lil' C we would plant a rainbow garden in our new home. He would always tell our family & friends, "When we get to Belgium, we're going to plant a rainbow garden." So instead of going on his class field trip, Lil' C and I spent the day planting a rainbow garden. We spent most of the morning at the local market looking at the animals and choosing flowers for his rainbow garden. Lil' C choose a variety of Pansies & Chrysanthemums. It was very cute watching him tell the vendor which flowers he wanted to buy. Then we headed to a local nursery for a bag of soil and other gardening supplies.
After lunch, Lil' C picked out his flower pots and we got to work. We had a lot of fun planting his little garden. Lil' C just loved pouring the dirt into the pots with his little shovel and taking the flowers out of their little plastic pots.
He even chose the location of the flowers. It was definitely a fun project. When S came home from work, Lil' C was very excited to show off his new rainbow garden. Now each morning before leaving for school, he admires his flowers and checks to see if there are new buds blooming.
That is so sweet! You can tell how much he was concentrating on getting everything precisely as he wanted. I know that was a lot of fun!

That's pretty cool! What a fun way to make the day special! When we lived in San Francisco we had two big flower beds on the private walkway leading to our front door which we filled with blooming flowers. I miss that so much. It was beautiful and always made my day to open the gate and see the flowers. Felt like home in a very sweet and beautiful way...

This is such a lovely idea. And the photos are perfect. I'm glad that you two got to do this project. Lil' C will be a master gardener in no time!
