Last Sunday I ran the 5K race! Five weeks of training and the day finally arrived. The night before I woke up around 2:20am; I couldn't sleep. You know when you're so excited about something you just can't relax & sleep? That was me. The adrenaline was rushing.
Elisa & I drove together & the boys met us after the race.
By the time we got to the Community Center there were a ton of people already stretching and getting ready. You could feel the excitement. It felt so awesome to be part of something so big. Everyone working towards a common goal... Trying to keep healthy and fit.
There were two physical fitness drill sergeants encouraging everyone to participate in the stretching activities. Throughout the race they were yelling out, "You can do it" & "You're doing great". It was so cool to see neighbors & total strangers come out and clap & cheer us on. These encouraging words & actions really motivated me.
I'm happy to report that I didn't get picked up by the rescue truck! LOL!! In fact, I ran the entire 3 miles!!
I did make a quick stop to grab a cup of water though. It was so funny because everyone was grabbing cups, guzzling down the water and throwing the cups on the ground. Before the race, I imagined myself running so fast that I'd throw the water on my face to cool off & throw the cup wherever it landed. LOL!! You know just like in the movies! LOL!! But I felt so weird about littering. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. Later Elisa told me she just couldn't throw the cup on the ground either. Too funny!
The last few minutes of the race Elisa & I sprinted towards the finish line. Giving it my all... physically & mentally I crossed the finish line. I was so disoriented that I didn't even look at the time. I was just so incredibly happy to cross that finish line!! I can't tell you how good it felt!!
Later I found out that my time was 31.56! 10.18 per mile. I came in 188 out of 270 runners! Not too bad for a first timer!
I'm so happy I did it & look forward to doing more races in the future. I'd love to be one of those women in her 60's running in Marathons. How cool would that be?
I had a blast doing the race with you! We did great!! Thanks Tylene!
