This morning I was a busy bee baking and getting all the craft supplies ready. Here's the Valentines Party Menu:
- Chocolate Cupcakes
- Pink Heart Rice Krispie Treats
- Strawberry & Banana Smoothie
- Blue Tortilla Chips
- Decorate Valentine Houses (using recycled boxes)
- Paint Heart Salt Dough ornaments
In the afternoon, Crafty Grrl (I, my friend from Spain) came over and helped me with my sewing machine. Yes, I finally took it out of the box - it's only been a few months. I have a really cute Valentines project planned and it required a sewing machine. So I finally made the time and set it up last night and boy did I have problems. I could not get the top & bottom thread to hook together. Tangled balls of thread were everywhere. Very frustrating. But Crafty Grrl was able to discover the my error. We spent the next 40 mins trying to figure out why the bobbin thread was so loose. In the end, Crafty Grrrl discovered the bobbin wasn't properly threaded. Now I'm all set or at least that's what I thought. Crafty Grrrl looked at my project and recommended I sew it my hand! We'll see if this project ever gets completed now. lol!
Preparing this morning was a huge help. Once the kids came home all we had to do was sit down, eat, and get busy creating. ;) The kids did a great job with their Valentine fairy houses & heart ornament.
Afterward, we played musical statues and the kids danced till their little cheeks matched the color of their shirts.
But I'm really happy they had such a great time. Who knows maybe I'll do an Easter party.
Once the party ended, it was clean up time, dinner time, and bedtime for C. Then it was baking & prep time for me - Tomorrow I'm hosting my English conversation group. Fun stuff. Being that we're so close to Valentines I'd like to try and ask everyone what was the most romantic thing someone did for them.
The menu for tomorrow is simple but even simple takes time & effort.
- Hot Milk Cake with Strawberries & Raspberries
- Chocolate Cupcakes
- Pink Heart Rice Krispie Treats (I think it's necessary that I share this very American treat with my International friends)
- A variety of Mariage-Freres Tea
Surprisingly, my oven was nice to me today and nothing burned! My milk cake is a little too golden but as long as it's not charcoal burn black I'm happy.
Have a good night. I'll post photos of our Valentine celebration tomorrow. ;)
Update: It snowed the morning of my conversation group so a few people couldn't make but we still had a good time. And the hot milk cake with berries & fresh cream was absolutely lovely. I'm definitely making this cake again.
